Celebrating Constitution Day,  Friday with 4th grade studends at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Burlington, KY

Celebrate America- it is Constitution Day!  In 1787, the Framers gathered  in Philadelphia from May 25th to September, debating, crafting the document that would  guide our infant Nation.  We celebrate the signing of the U. S. Constitution on September 17th.

Those who first sought our shores, thought the streets were paved with gold… but found they are paved with the highest ideals of how man is to live and govern.

The Founders and Framers of our Constitution understood clearly how politics rises from the nature of the human being, and our ability to reason, speak, choose according to a moral criteria and live in connection with one another. As Americans we believe the purpose of goverment is to protect our private rights, our rights to our property, our rights to our liberty of conscience and out right to speak and worship freely.

Those who first penned the Declaration of Independence knew they were committing an act of treason against the most powerful soverign.  Yet, they did so, understanding they were acting in accordance to the higher laws of God and natural law. “We hold these truths, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator, with unalienable Rights, anoung these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instiuted amoung Men…”.

That vision and ideals set the course, and a bloody and long battle ensued to secure those ideals as the foundation of a new nation, and  her name America.

From our first revolutionary victory and infancy as a nation, as we have grown and  matured… hero upon hero have fought and given their lives to defend those very first ideals that set the course for our Nation.

One of the blessings, I recieve in being your State Representative,  is visiting our schools, meeting, listening to your children and sharing the story of our Nation and the Constitution.

I believe our Founders were actually thinking of us and every generation that would come after them,  AND especially the  children -America’s  future, when they penned the opening paragraph -the Preamble of the U.S Constitution adding these words; ” and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our PROSPERITY…”.

U. S. Constitution is the shortest amoung the nations of the world.  This weekend, reading the entire document might be a push, but perhaps if you have just a moment just the words of the  Preamble.

God Bless America, our home sweet home!
